Has anyone updated to the new Umbrel bitcoin node app yet? My oldest node is an Umbrel. I remember a few years back that Umbrel updates were dicey affairs that often caused headaches and workarounds, but lately they seem more reliable.
The update seems a little gimmicky, but it might also be useful for a non techy user to easily access a bunch of information about their node.
The easy configuration editor could be useful too.
I'm reluctant to update, as usual, until I get some feedback.
I run Start9, but I think most of the Umbrel upgrade woes were due to them switching from a kind of virtual operating system to a real one - iterating from the initial prototype project to something more mature.
I have an Umbrel node (I bought their hardware) that I want to run at my office, but until it supports HTTPS, I don't want to transmit my creds in plaintext on a LAN shared by 10s of people.
I haven't looked to closely at the update because the release video was 95% fluff, but it looked like a kind of hybrid of their app before and mempool.space - which would be super convenient.
SSH tunnel
I forgot you can do this lol
I often find it takes the trauma of doing complicated things several times to remember the simple things
I have a Start9 too, for my CLN node. I like it better. The Umbrel https thing is weird. They have hinted at it coming soon, but it never happens. Is there an obvious reason why?
If you recall setting up your Start9, the UX of trusting the self-signed cert is pretty rough. I suspect that's the main thing. When you're building a product, if 90% of people have a secure LAN and assuming that makes the UX better, it's often worth it to neglect the 10%. At some point they'll add the option for the 10%, but it's easy to deprioritize minority needs.
Yes, I do recall getting frustrated with the cert. Overall, the Umbrel has been rock solid recently. I plan on waiting a while before updating to that new app.
Not really...It worth to update the old Umbred node?
