As long as stackers don't start zapping it. Then, it will be supercharged.
The hideous question that always makes me shudder is, "What if people like AI slop?"

I guess being constantly enraged isn't boring, but people sense that it's bad for them.

Remember when ai pictures had weird fingers? I'm trying to figure out if slop is weird fingers or if it's fundamental to how llms work.

Then markets will do their thing and provide it in great quantities at astonishingly low prices.
It does not seem like stackers have much demand for AI content, though.

So, should we zap it to stress-test the model?

Not everything needs to be tested, you science loving son of a bitch

Are you testing me?~~

I think your better angels will prevail over your satanic lust for knowledge.

That being said, is there some economic theory to go against what makes economic sense (zap low quality content) with the belief of better return in the long term (improved system that decreases the amount of low quality content)? Or it's usually better to adopt cold war dynamics where one side only improves when the other side does?

It makes individual sense to zap low quality content (early) if other stackers are going to zap it and your only aim is sat farming. Stacker News is a Keynesian Beauty Contest, after all. That will definitely make the site worse, though.
I didn't make an airtight case, but I did attempt to address this from a long-run perspective where users value SN for more than the sats they receive.

Exactly, if AI starts making valuable content, then it can earn zaps, just like any other stacker.
I think AI will have an easier time gaming the free posting spaces, like X or nostr, though. Echo chamber ragebait seems like something an AI can really excel at.
