Would be nice to have esim with a phone number that can get SMS codes.
I use it for a year and never saw anything like it.
I think the main relay are applying filtering already, but your might have found a relay who is not, certainly not a default one from one of the main app (Amethyst, Primal,...).
I can really ubderstand and the thought came to me as well. Shit happened with my node, see my reply to the other stacker below, and at the moment it's getting super slow for no reason but I love so much using my node and testing stuff with LNbits and boltcards, that I want to continue learning and trying. I'm also considering a second node on a more powerful machine, if I could be sure I can make it faster and more reliable than my Umbrel RasPi4.
A stuck HTLC transaction might make a channel unresponsive and trigger a force close that cost fee on-chain and if it happens during a high fee period it can cost you much more than the fee you earn in one year on your entire node.
Or just the other peer fucked up and trigger some force close automatically or manually and if you open the channel you paid for closing.
Also you can get some old channel commitment protocle that predefine force close fee at opening, if you end up needing to force close the channel (other peer offline) and you have sats on your side, you will trigger the force close but the fee cannot be change and might never get mined.
In more than one year with dozens of channels, the stuck HTLC close never happened, however second case happened and cost 80$ of fee at the time, third happen with millions sats on my side and my closing transaction was stuck in meme pool for 3 months with 12sats/vB fee, the fees end up low enough for it to pass but it was stressful. Thus the last one was mostly my fault, the other peer was not really offline but still we tried everything togheter and it was impossible to close it before fee went down again.
I had a force closed on a channel opened by me to a peer which I know and we talk about it at the time. We tried to figured out who did trigger the force close as any did it manualy, one of the node might have done it automaticaélly somehow.
The peer node did have other force close at the time that all happened in a short period while I had only this one, we conclude that it was initiated by my peer node somehow.
However the fee for the force close was taken on my side and it was during extreme high fee environnement and the fee was even significant higher than the network need for passing in the next block. It was like 200ksats or more, I don't remember exactly.
I never used any circuit breaker or automation but haven't much other issues so far beside a stuck force close, on purpose by me, that got stuck (and still is) due to 12ksat/vB fee and non-anchor channel type. I hope to solve it eventually with help from the other peer or by paying a transaction accelerstor like ViaBTC or Binance are offering.
I could certainly do my work over 3 days instead of 5 and accomplish as much if not more. But I don't accept to do that for 60% of my salary, I would do it for 90 to 100% for sure.
So basically bitcoin is going to 1 millions vs bitcoin is going to 100 millions. Of course Bitcoiners prefer the second.
I guess you mean a cent of dollar is droping to 1 sats.
I was born here so some of these are just "normal" to me, but I can also say that some are just myth or at least more exception than standard. What is really expensive is housing, but if you choose an area not near Leman Lake nore Zurich Lake, you will have less difficulty and more reasonnable costs. For having a job and living in one of these area I confirm that it's really the worst problem in Switzerland and I had to move to another area to avoid that. But on the otherside, if you don't move too often, it's painful once when moving but then you forget about the process and take the cost into account for your target job and salary.
Health insurance is the second worst thing but still cheaper than US and at least you can mostly trust your doctors to do the best for you not for their wallet, they are full non stop anyway, they will not chase more patient or try to keep them longer than necessary.
Rest of the costs are not that high, it depends of your lifestyle of course, if you got to restaurants several time per months, yes it's more expensive than most countries. If you cook most of your meals and don't do expensive activites all weekends, you will still end up with high quality of life and relatively normal cost of living due to higher income and lower taxes.
The trash and laundry stuff is more of a joke than a strick rules, at least in most places I lived. I was in a building with laundry schedules but nobody cares if you were out of it, except maybe one old lady, so you just avoid her day and it's fine. And now it's more and more that you get you own machine in your appartment or in the basement. If you have a house it's not a problem either. The trash we are the ones sorting it the best in my building, apparently nobody cares, even trash bag without tax mark and full of glass and aluminum are taken off. So unless you are in one of the rare strick city, it's not a real problem and sorting trash make you realize how much shit we consummed and reconsider some of your choices. Not the worst thing that can happen.
Then again, I didn't live in or visited any country where I could get the same benefits as in Switzerland with similar income and tax level, but I don't know every places on earth.
You should consider Switzerland.
No capital gain tax, low income tax compared to most modern countries, reasonable wealth tax.
Super high quality of life, lot of things to do, espacially if you like nature, hiking, skiing, biking... and culture is strong too, library, museum, concerts, shows...
Law and regulations are quite good, with lot of freedom and still support when needed (unemployememt benefit, retirement funds, if you worked here long enough).
It's safe, nobody shoot at each other. Bulding don't collapse when wind blow too much and there are not so much natural disaster (depending on you area, there might be some flooding from time to time but it's well managed when it happens).
Cost of living should be similar than in large US cities, especially housing cost, but you can live in a wonderful country side or mountain and stay within 30-60 min away from a larger city.
Healthcare costs are high but definitly lower than US and you get access to good hospital and doctors whatever your income/wealth is.
Another alternative with even less taxes is Dubaï. But culture and quality of life is really not like Switzerland or US I would say. I only been there in tourist so I cannot say too much.
What I miss is a non-KYC service of disposable credit card like Pay With Moon use to be but with choice of cards from several countries and currencies.
I would just move back in a nice but readonnable in my home city in Switzerland, to be close to family and friends. The most basic house there is around 2 millions, resonnable nice one 3 to 5 millions. In any case you must be lucky to find any house well located there. A 3 bedroom appartement can cost 3k+ easily, and nice one more lile 4k+ once all cost added, I couldn't afford it for my family so we had to move to a cheaper area (about half these prices).
I will give names but any YouTuber or Twitter influancer that try to make you think they havr good inside about the price evolution but in they end they have (and nobody could) no clue about what will happen with price, it's just pure clickbait that will mostly leave you uninformed about the real topics: which are why and how to use Bitcoin properly (and even so it stays someone opinion on vaste and complexe topic that always evolve). And if you listen carefully, they will always conclude by saying directly or indirectly that price could go up or down or stay the same. What a shitshow.
What about a Tuxedo Laptop? https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/
What about QubesOS? https://www.qubes-os.org/
I didn't know Walletsrecovery.org. It's an amazing and extremely valuable ressource. Thanks for sharing.
I use as much FOSS as possible and on Android (GrapheneOS) Inise Obtainium to download and update them when possible. I miss a proper store and still use F-Droid for app discovery. Also I'm still force to use proprietary apps using Play Store, espacially banking apps until I can get ride of all or mostof my bank account for good and use mostly Bitcoin and cash.
Yes it's the same with Breez. Send the max you plan to receive and then send back most (but not all) of it, to have the channel with as much inbound as possible. Then you can receive.
If you plan to mostly send from the wallet, then of course keep enough to spend on it.
Both Phoenix and Breez are great non-custodial LN app. I prefer Breez for the PoS and lower fee but it's not by far.
I had a period, 5-7 years ago where I was paying as much as possible with cash and it was awesome. At the time I was single and earning enough not to count my money. I made the mistake to spend a bit too much and didn't save as much as I could/should (e.g. didn't bought enough cheap sats).
Now I have to split my earning and we must track our expense and follow a buget. It's almost impossible if we pay too much cash, so card help to have a list of purchases easy to export to a spreadsheet. Also I have card with some cashback that help to save a little extra.
But I really wish I could earn enough more to not care again about budget and tracking expenses. I hate to know that I'm tracked as easily as I do by my banks, card company and even Google (for the rare cases I need to pay with phone).
At least in my country it's still very common to pay cash, 99% of the time it's accepted and even sometimes it's cash only (barbershop, small restaurant, food trucks, itinary fair attractions, ...)
