Hey hodlpleb. I don’t know how to say this but I have a deep empathy for people who go through physical suffering or have to love and walk with those who do. I’ve seen and been through so much of it in my life that I can’t even explain how much it grieves me to hear your story—even as a stranger.
I’m a Christian and I believe the historicity of Jesus and his living, dying, and rising from the dead is credible. I don’t know what you believe but tonight I am praying and pleading to my God that he will intervene in your situation. I really do believe that all suffering has a purpose and I believe that when I pray, He hears me. I am praying for a miracle. But even if not a physical miracle, that He would draw you both to Him and find a peace and joy in knowing Him the way I have been so blessed to have been able to experience.
I can’t even count the number of times I have run through in my mind the sadness and grief I would feel if me or my wife were ever in your shoes. I cling to Jesus for hope—if the story of His life is true, death has no hold on us if we believe. The sadness we feel is only fleeting and there is immense joy to come. It might seem irrational, but I think it’s the most rational explanation we have to the mystery that is this life.
All the best, and seriously: your wife will be in my prayers.
That’s an interesting take. I guess that’s not a problem for LLMs running locally though? And it seems like a lot of the open source models you run locally are already pretty good.
Forgot one prediction of mine that might trigger people:
- Dave Ramsey (he’s basically Austrian in nature and orange pilled already, he just can’t yet wrap his head around how this thing could actually replace the dollar… and when he does, he’s going to flip hard and start recommending 60/40+BTC)
It’s the very nature of the fiat system that makes this possible. There’s room for bailouts at many different layers of the system because fiat is not final settlement.
The world is going to converge on bitcoin as money because it’s finitely scarce. A byproduct of this is that the world is going to be using a money with an immutable ledger. There are no takebacks. This reality will impose greater personal responsibility on all the people who use it.
I don’t think all 8 billion people will hold private keys. But all 8 billion people will have to learn how to use bitcoin in a trust-minimized way.
If you’re concerned that your hardware wallet isn’t safe, just use multisig to protect any one device or generated seed from being a single point of failure. But don’t do this until you know what you’re doing.
The only way to secure that seed phrase in my opinion is to have it only stored in your brain.

How much is that entropy reduced if you choose yourself your 24 words so you can have a better chance to remember them
A LOT. Do not do this.
An immense amount of work has been done over years on these subjects and you just need to look for it and reap the benefit of others’ mistakes and permanently lost bitcoin.
Your fear is a 5 dollar wrench attack on your property and you’re trying to eliminate the threat of theft and loss. If you have that fear it means you probably have a pretty hefty chunk of bitcoin. If you have a hefty chunk of bitcoin and you want to self-custody, it’s time to learn about multisig.
You should read this whole article for starters: https://unchained.com/features/singlesig-vs-multisig

Out of curiosity, why?
That trend is accelerating rather than reversing.
You see it accelerating among people who have adopted bitcoin as unit of account? Really? I see the opposite so far—screen avoidance. Of course this could be plainly a matter of wealth, but I wonder how time horizon extension will affect this societally.
