I just read the Defense Reformation paper (link below) that was published by Palantir last year & while I disagree with a lot of its aspects, it did make a compelling case for the critical need for a 21st century national defense strategy built on deterrence to meet modern threats. We’ve grown rightly wary of mass surveillance and the military industrial complex's cronyism, and the concerns about Palantir's surveillance tech are 100% valid as well as their cosy relationship with the current warmongering national security apparatus, yet we cannot ignore the reality of real threats.
The real question is; what's the best way to craft a real national security (not the neocon/warmongering, blanket surveillance brand) framework that’s technologically cutting-edge, capable of thwarting real threats, while protecting the individual civil liberties we all cherish?
It's great to criticise Palantir for all the bad stuff they do, but I also think we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water, does a better alternative to Palantir exist today? Is the answer Jason Lowrey's Softwar thesis or something else? www.18theses.com/The%20Defense...
