I think Dr. J was one of the forerunners for these guys. IIRC he invested in Coca Cola bottling facilities and made pretty good money after he retired. Of course, he was also the most marketable player of his era, so he didn't exactly need it.

Car dealerships can be profitable but you have to know what you are doing and they require more capital
At least 10 million to buy or build
Car dealers rely on 50 percent sell thru, below 50 percent and they go out of business
