When I first saw the headlines my initial reaction was woah has Elon lost his mind and started acting like the government and using powers like eminent domain? However, this wouldn't make a ton of sense because when the vote was held to create the town the results were a landslide 212 - 6. Clearly he has a ton of support in making the company town and of the roughly 500 current residents approximately 260 are directly employed by SpaceX with most of the others being either married or children of people working for SpaceX.
When I looked into it I couldn't help but shake my head over the click bait that the mainstream media was pushing. What this was about was establishing a zoning map for the city. Since the city is brand spanking new it didn't have a zoning map and ya know those things can actually be useful and serve a purpose. That is all this was going to do and since you know you wouldnt want to build apartments next to the launch pad it isnt a crazy thing.
According to the Notice
You are receiving this notice because you own the above listed property that will be located in the “Mixed Use District” and will be impacted if the zoning ordinance is approved.
The Mixed Use District allows for a blend of residential, office, retail, and small-scale service uses.
The whole “lose the right to continue using” their property as they do today that was highlighted by all of these news agencies.... it isnt honest or accurate. They took something and bent it to the extreme to fit their idea of how Elon is bad and blah blah blah when that is not what this was about at all. This wasnt a crazy power grab this didnt kick people out of their homes this just established the same ground rules that a city is required to do and have.
Agreed! I read that paragraph like this:
  1. The City is required by Texas law to notify you of the following:
THE CITY OF STARBASE IS HOLDING A HEARING THAT WILL DETERMINE
WHETHER YOU MAY LOSE THE RIGHT TO CONTINUE USING YOUR
PROPERTY FOR ITS CURRENT USE, PLEASE READ THIS NOTICE CAREFULLY.
  1. The foregoing notice is required by Texas Local Government Code section 211.006 (a-1):
(a-1) In addition to any notice required by this section or Section 211.007, the governing body of a municipality or a zoning commission, as applicable, shall provide written notice of each public hearing regarding any proposed adoption of or change to a zoning regulation or boundary under which a current conforming use of a property is a nonconforming use if the regulation or boundary is adopted or changed. The notice must: (1) be mailed by United States mail to each owner of real or business personal property where the proposed nonconforming use is located as indicated by the most recently approved municipal tax roll and each occupant of the property not later than the 10th day before the hearing date; (2) contain the time and place of the hearing; and (3) include the following text in bold 14-point type or larger: "THE [MUNICIPALITY NAME] IS HOLDING A HEARING THAT WILL DETERMINE WHETHER YOU MAY LOSE THE RIGHT TO CONTINUE USING YOUR PROPERTY FOR ITS CURRENT USE. PLEASE READ THIS NOTICE CAREFULLY."
  1. The proposed zoning ordinance is based on current and existing uses.
That's the important part.

Exactly Starbase let everyone know that was in areas that would be affected. They did everything right and MSM is flipping out about this basic ass stuff.

They did everything right
I think so too. Since there wasn't any zoning plan, the qualifier "change to a zoning regulation or boundary under which a current conforming use of a property is a nonconforming use if the regulation or boundary is adopted or changed" is fuzzy... so I would also have added the all caps crap in their position - to be safe.
The only change I'd make is print all the other text in 18pt lol
MSM is flipping out about this basic ass stuff
Did they even look up the link I looked up? probably not, lol.

LOL NO THEY DID NOT AT ALL!!!
Yeah you are right on finer points like the other text in 18pt but this also wasnt suppose to be something that was done purely off of a single piece of paper ya know. These people at least should have gone to the meeting and listened to what was going on and then made their voices heard if it was outta line.
Everything seems to have been esp in a city space done as good if not better than whatever any other city has ever done.
