In her letter to fans on Friday, Swift called the deal with Shamrock her “greatest dream come true”.Added Swift: “To my fans, you know how important this has been to me – so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released 4 of my albums, calling them Taylor’s Version.”Financial details of the buyback have not been disclosed. Variety reports that it was a “nine-figure sum”.Page Six suggested earlier this month that the deal could be valued between $600 million and $1 billion. This would represent a significant increase from the $405 million that Shamrock Capital paid Ithaca Holdings for the masters in November 2020.

What does she get owning those, vs having the re-recorded ones? Is it just purely symbolic?

I think it's mostly control of any derivative work. Whoever owned the masters could produce derivative work without her consent.

She earns money from licensing. The music is listened to every day.
It's just like when Michael Jackson purchased The Beatles' entire catalog in 1985.

Smart move. She is one of the sharpest business people in music. Or she listens to smart people. My guess is it's both. I've never cared for her music and personally I still can't see her being so popular but clearly she's figured it out and poeple love her. I respect her skill.

Awesome! I am happy to hear she did it! I am not a very big fan of her, but I admire her tenacity and how she managed to find and have great people around her and advising her for her good. She really has great life skills and true friends.
I do hope she picks a new great dream to tackle.
