feels a bit like this is all part of Toyota's marketing plan to bring this low-powered vehicle to an American market.
edit to add this amazing lil' thing

This is excellent.
Last year I was looking at a successor to my 1988 Hilux.
I looked at the modern Hiluxs and saw bloated over sized over powered highly complex monsters I would never want.
I looked at modern EVs and hybrids- too complex and expensive.
Instead I invested substantially in rust cutting the old 2 litre 5 speed 1988 ute to extend its life hopefully another 5-10 years.
I do not want or need a truck with more power than my current one has.
My 1998 hilux is a also
'A gasoline 2.0-liter, inline-four engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission'
And it has plenty of power for me.
I imagine a modern Toyota 2l engine will be even more fuel efficient too.
Toyota please make this new truck (that has the same specs more or less than my 1988 Hilux) available in New Zealand, if you can get it past the red tape!

I am not a truck guy but if I needed one for utility I would definitely consider this truck.
