They didn’t die of biting, as there is 1 death for that - bit with a mad dog. I think teeth / gum inflammation is the cause.

Humans used to bite each other in those days, so that's the premise.

Did you ever hear about using bite as a vector to spread the plague?

Not really:) also googled a bit and it’s most likely was a general cause that ment any infection in the mouth.

Actually for sometime during the Great Plague, it was believed that human biting could cause plague. Some people took it seriously and bit their foes or whoever they hated. Surprisingly it was observed that some people got infected but to say only human bites caused them the plague was never confirmed.
