Diamond Hands recently conducted a survey on mobile Bitcoin wallet usage in Japan.
The data that caught most attention was mobile Lightning wallet market share in Japan.
Among users who use LN wallets, 64% use Wallet of Satoshi—a beginner-friendly custodial wallet widely adopted in the community.
Non-custodial mobile LN wallets make up around 20% of the market share, Zeus leading with 7.7%.
There are other interesting charts and findings, so check out the original blog post as well.
We are now planning to run similar surveys in other Asian countries like South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and more, too. Stay tuned.
Those using zeus are mostly people connecting it to their nodes or seeting up the custodial wallet using Zeus LSP?
reply
ZEUS LSP doesn't custody users' sats, it only acts as a channel to them

There are both types of users; users who connect to a remote node like Umbrel and who use Zeus as a non-custodial mobile Lightning wallet. The ratio is probably 50 50 from what I observe

Wallet of Satoshi dominating with 64% shows just how much ease of use matters even in a tech savvy country like Japan. Custodial still wins when UX leads.Curious to see how this plays out across the rest of Asia.
