Let’s get something straight:
Motivation is a scam.
It’s that flaky friend who hypes you up on Monday and ghosts you by Wednesday. As a student of Power Yoga who has won numerous state and regional championships, and a 2-times National Champion let me explain. [I'm not bragging]
You’re not unfit because you lack motivation. You’re stuck because you’re still waiting for motivation to show up and save you.
Trust me, it won’t. I'll tell you why...
Motivation is Emotion-Based. Discipline is Identity-Based.
You feel motivated after watching a badass fitness reel, reading a David Goggins quote, or drinking a double shot of caffeine.
But what happens when life punches you in the face?
Rainy mornings. Breakups. Exams. Deadlines. Sickness. No likes on that last progress post.
That’s when motivation vanishes.
“You don't rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” - James Clear
Your brain doesn’t care about what you say you want.
It only respects what you repeat, cuz practice makes man perfect.
Let’s get science-y for a sec:
Every time you work out when you don’t feel like it, your brain forms a new neural link.
Dopamine, the “feel good” neurotransmitter gets associated with the act of starting, not just finishing.
So eventually, the habit becomes automatic.
Not because you’re superhuman… but because you rewired your damn brain through repetition. Like brushing teeth - but for your body.
Milgram Experiment: Why We Obey Others More Than Ourselves
In the 1960s, psychologist Stanley Milgram proved that people obey authority even if it meant shocking someone to death.
Wild, right?
Now flip it: When it comes to your own fitness, you are the authority. But most of us won’t obey ourselves.
We keep promises to bosses, teachers, partners…
But break the ones we make to ourselves.
Discipline is honoring your own command.
Friedrich Nietzsche didn’t care about feel-good philosophies.
He spoke of becoming who you truly are through struggle, pain, and power.
“He who cannot obey himself will be commanded.”
Fitness is your battleground.
It’s where you kill the weak version of yourself, every. single. day.
Not for vanity. But for spiritual violence against mediocrity.
Your Space = Your Subconscious
According to Edward T. Hall’s theory of Proxemics, your physical environment deeply influences your subconscious behavior.
So ask yourself:
- Is your gym bag visible or hidden under clothes?
- Is your kitchen full of meal prep… or excuses?
- Is your bedroom for recovery… or distraction?
You don’t need more willpower.
You need better architecture—of space, mind, and system.
Stop Waiting for the Spark. Be the Fire.
The world wants you to stay addicted to short-term gratification.
But you were made for more than that.
Discipline is the highest form of self-respect.
It says: “I don’t care how I feel. I care about who I’m becoming.”
Get up.
Lift.
Eat clean.
Rest.
Repeat.
Even when you hate it.
Especially when you hate it.
Because that’s when it counts the most. So instead of skipping gym next time. Remember this.
"Your comfort zone is killing you softly. Build discipline. Not motivation. Because the wolf you feed is the one that grows.
