I feel like a lost spectator in this debate, and this post — like many others — has been of great help. Your point is very valid, and for those who don’t want to see junk on their node, there are other options. It’s valid that many are concerned about the use of the network by malicious actors, but from what I’ve seen, that limit doesn’t make a difference today and we don’t see all that pollution on the network with fees this low. Your post makes that clear — it’s economically expensive to keep playing around tagging the timechain, and today on-chain movements are more like large transfers between banks (with each person being their own bank), while there’s Lightning — cheaper, faster, and meant for day-to-day use. I know I’ll be reading much more about this even if I’m just a mere spectator, because debates come and go and it’s important to understand what really matters.
