A heavy rainstorm has destroyed key facilities at Kwara State’s NYSC Orientation camp, leaving corps members stranded and homeless as reported by Arise News Media.
The heavy rainstorm over the weekend destroyed properties worth several millions of naira at the orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Yikpata in Edu local government council area of Kwara state.
The heavy downpour, according to THISDAY checks, began early on Saturday and was accompanied by strong winds that wreaked havoc across the camp premises.
It was gathered that the extent of the damage was so significant that several key facilities within the camp suffered considerable destruction.
Among the structures affected are electricity installations, the NYSC Multipurpose Hall, the Administrative Block, the camp mosque and several hostel blocks housing corps members and camp officials.
Apart from this, it was learnt that the rainstorm left a trail of destruction on the camp’s saluting dais and the newly constructed volleyball court, which had been one of major attractions within the camp.
In addition, two vehicles, belonging to camp officials were completely wrecked after a mighty tree, uprooted by the fierce winds, crashed down on them, rendering them beyond repair.
