Both. Rewarding a 49ers legend and paying for him to continue to be elite. Best blocking TE in football. Most yards per target amongst qualified receivers in NFL last year.
Does that appear to be a player on the decline to you?
He will likely miss some time due to injuries but if Kelce can play until 35 so can Kittle.
49ers have outs after every year. Most of the guaranteed money will be paid up front. The cap hits will be very low after this season. They have tons of cap space this year.

Agree he will be good for next 1-2 years. I think the back half of the contract will need to be restructured

Why? The cap hits are 6.6M, 4.5M and 2.2M in the final 3 years and the 49ers have outs every year. So worst case scenario he gets a major injury this year and they think he is toast so they release him and take a 13M cap hit next year.
