My wife and I went to vote earlier this afternoon. This was my wife's first time voting in Canada. (She got her Canadian citizenship a couple years ago, so she didn't have to keep reapplying for Permanent Resident status).
For some reason we received 2 voter cards each in the mail (Apparently some people got 4!).
When were in line to sign in I commented to the election clerk that I had received 2 voter cards, and questioned if that meant I could vote twice. She said "you can try but it's a hefty fine".
To which I replied "so it's not like a 2020 US election thing we have going on here?"
Both her and the other lady at the table looked at me sternly and probably took it out on my wife as I walked away smiling, thinking about how hilarious I am.
I finished voting first and waited for my wife in the hall. She gave me a wry smile and as we were walking out she said "I really can't take you anywhere can I?".
I replied "At least I restrained myself from making a joke about those two ladies wearing masks. I wanted to say 'it's 2025 and they are still wearing masks- we know who they are voting for'."
She laughed and said "Stop".
Better to laugh than cry. Happy Election day Canada!
