Never would I have thought I’d be writing a review about sandals I just bought. Yet, here we are...
I’ve been hunting for a new pair since my Tevas are starting to show wear and tear. Spending money on shoes isn’t exactly thrilling, but I need footwear that isn’t falling apart.
Last week, I asked for sandal recommendations on Nostr. A few folks mentioned Birkenstocks, but I’m not a fan. Their design doesn’t vibe with me - I don’t scuff my feet when I walk, and I find that shuffling sound annoying. Hard pass.
As I briefly mentioned, I’ve been rocking Tevas for a while. I like them, but I wanted something sleeker, with a slim profile, open toes, and a simple look. I checked out the Adidas Terrex Hydroterra (https://www.kickscrew.com/en-US/products/adidas-terrex-hydroterra-light-sandals-core-black-id4273?variant=42490103169219) after spotting a pair in Japan. They were cool, but the heel height was too much. I needed something flatter.
One friend on Nostr mentioned Xero. I’d looked at their shoes years ago and wasn’t impressed, but I revisited their website recently and instantly gravitated toward the Xero D-Trails. They checked all my boxes. So, I took the plunge and ordered a pair.
They arrived two days ago, and I can honestly say these are the sickest sandals I’ve ever owned. They’re as close to perfect as I could imagine - for me, anyway. They’re insanely comfortable, with no itchy or pinchy straps, and the velcro isn’t obnoxiously loud. Best of all, since I love walking barefoot whenever possible, these are practically that. You feel the ground as you walk, and the sole conforms to the terrain, keeping you connected the whole time. After a couple of days, the sole molds to your foot, making them even comfier. I got them dirty today on a bike ride in the dirt, so I washed them in the tub. They clean up incredibly well! Unlike my Tevas, which stay damp, the Xero sandals dry quickly and don’t hold onto moisture or dirt. They’re like my Onitsukas, which I wear daily and also clean up great.
If you’re searching for a new pair like I was, I highly recommend the Xero D-Trails. They also come with a 5,000-mile warranty. Crazy good deal, I’ll say.
A solid 9.3/10 (because nothing’s perfect).
My only nitpicks? The tread design could be cooler, and the straps might be a tad thinner. But honestly, I’m not complaining - just trying to find something to critique.

I'm a big fan now for sure. Although, some of their designs I'm not too stoked on. Still an Onitsuka guy for sure
