What's the highest sustainable hash rate you've been able to pull from a Bitaxe Gamma?
Mine is about a 1.3 th/s, and the only upgrade I made was changing the fan to a Noctua (which didn't help much). I think I got a little lucky with the silicon lottery on that one because my other 2 Gammas generally hover around 1 or a little less.
I'm going to be upgrading to an ice tower heatsink and also adding some additional heatsinks throughout. Hoping to crank out 1.5 th/s.
How are you guys all faring? Anyone running a fan on the back too? Has that helped? Maybe upgrade the power supply (mine is 30 watt)?

I'm curious to read replies. I don't own a gamma yet, but I'm fascinated with all these upgrades, and I wonder if they make economic sense. I have my eye on that nerdQaxe ++, but its expensive. Amazing energy efficiency.

I'm using mine (I actually have 3, haha) is as a Bitcoin lottery miner. Maybe it'd make sense if I went for a different token, but tbh, it's mostly just for fun/hobby/learning with my 6 year old daughter.
I'm probably spending more on cooling them than simply buying another BitAxe Gamma (if I were to go on a $/hash rate basis), but yeah, it's just fun. :)

My fun mining experiments are similar. If I sat down and added up the numbers, I'm sure I wouldn't like what I saw. Yet, anyway. In 10 years we will be geniuses.

If the theory is correct (big if) and the numbers are truly random (is there such thing as random?) then technically it does not matter, the percentages of course are not in your favor but still... "insert - you saying there is chance meme - here"
reply
Yeah, I don't think these incremental increases will materially matter because the odds are so small. I suppose it comes down to the gamification of how low/cool you can go, and the learning that comes with it.

I recently attended a panel on mining. One researcher claimed that often the higher efficiency of an asic is not at 100% of its power.
Have you done any tests on this?
Are there any alternative firmware?
reply
I personally haven't ventured off into other firmware (yet).
It's funny you mention the basic at 100% thing. I've heard similar, and in fact, I've also heard you don't want to the processor to be TOO cool because that affects its efficiency.
Seems like there are a lot of moving pieces to it all!

Solo miners don’t earn any sats. :)
