I think the opening of the "This Time is Different" section is a bit silly and just rings of the all-to-common Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Trump is the most immediate threat to the dollar's reserve status, but not for those silly reasons. His beloved tariffs directly reduce the flow of dollars to foreigners, which is how reserve currency status is maintained. He's trying to use bluster and threats to offset that, which, at best, is a short term solution.
Trump is aware of the imminent threat that is mBridge-
Chinas international trade payments protocol.
This is why he threatened BRICS nations with severe sanctions should they dare adopt an alternative to SWIFT.
mBridge is that alternative.
It is already operational and will enable trade payments between ASEAN and Middle East economies.
Saudi Arabia joined both BRICS and mBridge last year.
China already enables the trade payments of Iran and Russia- with Saudis joining mBridge the USD petrodollar hegemony is about to be seriously challenged by Chinas digital trade payments protocol...
mBridge is a crucial tertiary element of Chinas Belt and Road global trade empire development.
