I think you can’t use Phoenix(d) because they don’t allow you to change the BOLT12 description which is required for OCEAN payouts … or something like that.

Yeah. That's my understanding. I think @BitcoinMechanic explained it on a video recently. I think he said he had discussed it with Phoenix and that they may make some changes to make it compatible.

People using OCEAN might be more likely to run their own nodes is my guess. It's also unclear how many individuals this is. They've found 11,860 blocks according to their dashboard so they're making <2 lightning payments for each block they've found.

I think that figure also includes blocks that were mined by Eligius pool back in the day. Ocean itself should be way less.

I've taken Ocean payouts via Lightning for home mining... and it worked great. I was kind of impressed to be honest.
