It should.
I think most gamers aren't thinking of making a living off it though. A sh$tcoin is easier for game developers as it doesn't cost them much and they can produce as much as they like. Using sats could be costly if the game doesn't have much of a user base.

I'd be MORE willing to pay/buy "skins" for a game, if I could later sell them, if I wanted.
And if that value was in sats/btc.
