The point of all this isn’t to repeat the line that the Old always throw at the Young. The point is to realize that all of us are running the marathon from whatever starting point we’re given, and all of those starting points suck. The ones you didn’t start from might seem good, but that’s because you can’t really see them. This cuts both ways and in all directions. You know your time. The rest is guesswork.
Every generation, every single one, has over-corrected for the horrors they saw in their formative years. GI’s reached for the chintzy “How Much Is That Doggie In the Window” 50’s culture like a dying man in the desert reaching for water. Silents and Boomers ran from it like zeks departing the Gulag, empowering every Hellish human impulse with Good Intentions. Gen-X gave their souls to Wall Street and the Military Industrial Complex just to be anchored in something that was real.9 Millenials tried to insist that everyone reorder the way we think about everything, so that we could have nice things again. All of it failed, all of it sucked, all of it passed the buck downstream.
You kids today will not be any different. Whatever you do, however you do it, Generation Beta or Gamma or Whatever will look at you sometime in the 2040’s or 50’s and say “What did you do?” and call you the Worst. And you will tell them that they weren’t there and they don’t understand.
But don't the actual cognitive and standardized tests all show that the younger generations really are getting dumber?
I don't know if someone did the study already, but I'd be interested in seeing how much of it was due to COVID lockdowns and how much is due to other factors.

Kids are truly getting dumber and phones are taking over their smartness. They can't even solve a simple arithmetic without having to consult their calculator. OMG this generation! 🤣
Beautiful. And tragic.

I’m Gen X. I think our failure was believing too much in the unrestrained capitalism of the 80s, as well as the utopian racial wishful thinking from that time. Neither worked out great.
With respect to work, we overworked ourselves and damaged our health because we thought our employers were going to be decent people. We were often wrong. We should have been less trusting and more careful to carve out a healthy life for ourselves while doing it. Millennials have overcompensated for this and are too selfish and lazy. Maybe the zoomers will have a better balance.

regarding utopian racial wishful thinking, millennials and zoomers are worse
"we are blank slates"
"race is a social construct"
"migrants are good for the economy"
"we depend on illegal immigrants"

Maybe it's high time we started letting the kids know that "Each morning they are born again and What they do today is what matters most."
A blissful day to you all, keep staying strong.

Is this only in USA or everywhere?

I guess it is the same with every generation. If you ask the Boomers, the Greatest Generation scarfed up all the goodies and didn’t release them until death did them apart. The Boomers are doing the same to the generation after them and the Millenials to the Zoomers, or whatever the next generation is called. As the author stated, every generation starts in the isht and runs the marathon from there through even more isht, to the end of the game. It looks to me like this is the constant race of the human race from the beginning until now.
I just hope it keeps on going. There is a lot of crap going on with poisoning the air, irradiating everyone with radio waves (EMF), poison in the food and poison called “medicine” that could bring the whole show to a screeching halt if there is no strict accountability applied. If not, there may be a huge recede, to the point of human non-viability coming down the road to us. Are you awake to this?
