Is it really that expensive to integrate multiple Bluetooth chips/circuits in a set of heaphones?

My Airpod Max's seem to support connecting to two devices. Only one outputs audio at a time though if that's what you mean.

I think Airpods allow you to listen to more than a single device within Apple's ecosystem.
In concept, all I want is to be able to listen to music from my phone, pause it, play something on Youtube on my PC, and not have to switch the Bluetooth connection in order to do it. It seems like everyone would want this.
Sometimes I literally wear both my Airpods and an over-ear headset, so I can listen to a podcast or audiobook and play a videogame at the same time.
