Honestly the surge by definition does fit an invasion and invasion doesn't have to be violent at all. Again the US isn't sending its people it is sending criminals. You broke the law illegally entering most countries don't give you a trial and a hell of a lot of them shoot you.
I think there might have been a single citizen arrested which is wild low given the sheer number or arrests. Those sent to El Salvador are not American citizens. The Maryland father not an American citizen everyone agrees on that.
But is that what its really to be used for? are they invading? are we at war with the country? Politicians always think of a reason to use emergency powers. That's what we saw during covid as they stomped peoples freedom of assembly. Now the government can send you to a foreign prison with no trial and with no obligation to bring you back even when it was a "clerical error" (what the administration argued in court) that sent you there. We are already picking up American citizens because they are brown and speak Spanish. I don't want to live in a show me your papers country
