Today for some reason I googled what the eyes πŸ‘€ emoji means.
The top hits mostly suggested it meant to indicate situations of drama, or flirting, or side-eye indicating disbelief.
Now, that was surprising to me, because in most of the contexts I've used it, it meant, "I'm looking into this," or "I saw your post and acknowledge it."
I hope no one got the wrong impression!

I think context matters. On github, when you πŸ‘€ my comment, I'm fairly confident you aren't flirting with me.

On code / pull req comments I still translate it to "wait what?!?" every time I see it. I just convince myself that that's not what the author of the moji means to tell me.

It's very dependent on context for me

I never knew so many people at work were trying to flirt with me

I wouldn't do that... why, are you cute? πŸ‘€

I used to think that πŸ‘€represent some form of resentment towards the preceding comment. But I them realise it actually meant to show surprise and people use it for different reasons.
The πŸ‘€ (eye emoji), also known as the side-eye or β€œthe eyes,” is as versatile as it is mysterious. Like most emojis, the πŸ‘€ (eye emoji) can have different meanings depending on the context. https://www.wikihow.com/Respond-to-the-Eye-Emoji

πŸ‘€ what if we made the ui so if you comment just an emoji it gets rolled up into the comment above
This is how signal does it. there is diffrent rendering for an emoji only message vs one with test and emoji
People could reply multiple emoji
or allow emoji reactions when zapping

at work if somebody shares a pr it means im reviewing it or looking at it
reply
Professional vs personal context. I always assumed it was playful, or watching drama or the like. But in professional contexts, I believe it means β€œI’m looking into it”, as you said
reply
I think I only knew the professional use of it... now I'm thinking back to whether I ever used it in a non professional context
reply
For me it means surprise, when a comment is strange or goes too far.

For me this emoji I use it to say I'm shocked or wtf or like I'm seeing you in a spying type of way lol. So many contexts for me actually.
