Let’s say your family is accommodated for, and everywhere else you’d first think to leave money.
If you were to give something back to the external world before death, what would it be?
The thought came to me while I’m conversation with a friend two days ago. He told me about a man he knew that left an allocation of funds specifically set aside for the construction of a library in his hometown.
If you were in a similar position, what would you leave the world with? Would you build something, convert it to bitcoin and burn the private keys, or something else?
I'm not a big fan of Michael Saylor, and I don't think he's good for bitcoin. Having said that, recently he said that when he dies, he wants to burn his personal keys (not the ones owned by microstrategy). He called it decentralized charity and it would basically benefit everyone who owned bitcoin.
I haven't thought about it extensively, but I kind of like that idea, so maybe that. I'm not sure yet, ans hopefully I have a lot of time to think about it.

I appreciate the idea for larger holders like him without younger generations to pass it off too, though myself I plan on passing it all to my children.
Saylor is a mixed bag. My opinion of him has changed negatively the more I observe his actions. I've always believed bitcoin's merging with the state is a natural step on the path to separation of money and state; leeches can't help but try to pull the life out of anything they get their fangs on after all. For all he's done for bitcoin adoption, his "end conclusion" seems to be that short-term outcome rather than the long-term solution needed...Whether it's unintentional, rooted in the here and now, or straight up nefariousness I can't bother to speculate too much on.
"Slay all of your heroes" was one of the best things I read early on into my journey with bitcoin.

I'm always looking for books to listen to on the road. I'll put it on the list.

xD sorry i wasn't referring to a specific book. Just a quote I can't remember where from. If it's not a published title already though it should be!

My dream is to create an economic organism like bitcoin. Only I don't want to create another bitcoin. I want to use bitcoin like an organelle.

You're well on the way there k00b. k00b may be gone one day but SN will live on! And if SN proves only to be a mere prototype, you're building the skills needed to create something of the sort

I don't really know yet. I'm at the age where I'm thinking about having children, and I suppose they will be my legacy. I want to raise them to be better, happier, more successful than me (I think that's the ultimate goal with children, to shape them into better people than you are yourself).
That's what I'll leave behind: people who are better than me, and who hopefully want to have children of their own who are in turn raised to be better still.

I've a dream of leaving behind a very different school/college where half of the students will be those who can't afford good education. I've a very long list of things how the school/college will be different. For instance, it'd be at least on a 20 hectares of land, students will be taught practical things like gardening and husbandry. And of course Bitcoin education shall be taught from the primary levels.

Seems like a worthy goal

Anything left behind will be forgotten about regardless. It will have a relative, momentary impact but will fade into the background. Pessimistic, but often true.

Its better IMHO to give back while you're alive. So I'd say I hope I leave this world having at least inspired 2 people to do that too. Evolution, not revolution.

I firmly believe everyone should leave a short memoir for those closest to them of what they learned along the way. I have been thinking about doing this for years and outlined a number of lessons i want to share with my kids should I not be around to share them personally with them but I have never done it. I don't know if it is procrastination holding me back or grappling with the acceptance of even a slim chance I wouldn't be around for my kids.

Definitely a hard thing to do. Just the mere act of writing it I would imagine makes death feel closer, forces you to comes to terms with the reality of it all. Much easier on the mind to put it off..

Its a tough question...
It kinda implies that you want to make a name for yourself. Also that you would leave something fixed that would remain around forever.
IDK... I need to think about it more.
