It's difficult to politically pigeonhole this new class of wannabe tyrants that thinks they are better and smarter than everyone else so they need to exert control over other's decisions. Mark Carney is one. He wrote about it in his book Values.
Because their ideology isn't easily identifiable it makes it hard for the masses to comprehend the risk in giving these people power.
Explaining the depth and nuance of someone who believes government should have pandemic style power to make better decisions for the citizens than they can for themselves is not as easy as saying they are a socialist or far right or wall st puppet etc.

This is very true. For many years the politicians in the west have ran out of ideas and no longer really hold to these ideologies. I think this is largely due to the failure of the ideologies to solve the problems of our day and the past. Yet, the media still calls people by these names in an attempt to discredit them... I guess. I doubt it is working as well as they think it is.
Think of all the people calling Musk a Nazi. Honestly, I don't know what Musk is but the Nazi label isn't helpful. It is simply a slur. One problem is that people think in very simplistic ways. Someone could be an old school democrat or republican and still be a tyrant. Look what happened during Covid. The systems we have build as societies are the true tyranny.
Yes, Trump is pushing the edges to get done what he wants to get done but the system isn't gonna sit quietly by and do nothing. There is a war happening and these slurs like Nazi and Commie aren't helpful.
It is wild why people think Musk is terrible. Its often boils down to they don't like what he's doing. Never mind the fact that the President put him in the place and the citizens and their "representatives" have allowed the executive branch to expand its power and influence for decades. I suspect when Trumps crew leaves we will see the same sort of executive power used to swing things back in the old direction or many a worse direction.
