Probably the snow in the winter for me.

Lack of high paying jobs. There are a lot of service jobs in the area because it is a resort town and there are a lot of good jobs for skilled trades but not much else.

Not such a big deal for my wife and I but as the town grows I hope the job prospects improve for younger people (namely my kids) so they don't have to flee to the city. Remote work for the win.

Yes, I am selfish, I want my kids to stay in a small town with me forever and not experience the world. Haha

reply

The older I get, the more small town seems appealing.

As of December 2023, Canada's GDP per capita was $44,468.75 USD

reply

Don’t worry more government debt and social programs will fix that when the Liberals get voted back in. Haha

reply

Take the terrible health care system

The government is encouraging and assisting suicide to disguise how terrible hospitals and doctors are in Canada

We need more immigrants especially if they wear burkas!

The lack of big trees is a big one for me. It sucks that there aren’t many tree species that do well with the heat and humidity.

There’s also an unproductive drinking/party culture here that I find really annoying. Meaning the work/party balance seems kind of off to me but it might just be the bachelor/bachelorette tourism.

reply

Lack of big trees is mine, too. We have big trees in the area, but these newer developments clearcut everything before building. Our house is old enough that we have some nice trees, but most of the neighborhood doesn't.

reply

Pacific Northwest used to have lots of big trees

reply

Still does where my relatives live.

reply

Drinking culture is insane in Wisconsin, but we do have trees, so there's that.

My neighbours.

The owners of each house across street from us are nice enough. They are each independently wealthy, and each have their garages set up as man caves. They are out there from 9:00 am until 1:00 am, 365 days a year, whether it’s -30°C or 30°C. Watching TV, listening to tunes, running their Harleys and sports cars, drinking, getting high, carrying on. Their respective buddies show up whenever their wives kick them out for the day. I cannot leave the front of my house without engaging. They’ll see me walking my dog and tag along. I could be leaving for work and they’ll just stand behind my car yammering on.

Too cold in the winter

the snow is THE BEST PART of my home.

I was gonna say prices or "woke/socialist" culture/gov or something like that

reply

I love the snow, but I drive for a living, so it's a bit of a love hate thing.

reply

Fresh snow is nice

Old snow sucks

reply

For me the snow would be the worst.

It’s just one big vapid sand color’d stucco hellscape.

It's a culture of its own.

A culture of hellscape and depression but the weather is nice.

Sometimes I can hear hunters shooting
and killing animals in the beautiful forests nearby, just for sport. I think they really need to kill something to feel they have accomplished something in life.

Taxes. Corruption. people who only care about frivolities, don't like deeper or more educational content.

easy one here and it's people's mistreatment of animals and often needless cruelty/neglect (ie, getting a dog and leaving in on a short chain outside all day).

There's no logic to it even, like if you wanted a guard dog, it's on a chain, it couldn't get a thief if it wanted to.

not so much a city thing, but more a rural village thing

reply

the government

It's a big town with about 200k people. It's densely populated and there aren't well equipped or big medical and educational facilities.

However we have them all at about 1/2 hour distance. Roads have now improved a lot.

reply

The traffic, no doubt.

People who wear to much fragrance.
