Two-time presidential candidate draws ‘insane’ crowds as he criticizes cuts by Musk and Trump
WSJ-
'TEMPE, Ariz.—When President Trump and billionaire ally Elon Musk began to drastically downsize the federal government, Sen. Bernie Sanders called his top adviser, Faiz Shakir, and suggested they hit the road. “I have a feeling that people are pretty angry out there,” he said.
They initially reserved a space at their first stop of Omaha, Neb., that could hold 800 people, but had to move to a bigger venue so 3,400 could attend. As the tour headed farther west this past week, the political independent who caucuses with Democrats said he is shocked by crowds that exceeded even his 2020 presidential campaign rallies. About 15,000 people showed up to see him in Tempe on Thursday night, with tens of thousands more expected for the remaining rallies.
“That is insane, I’m not running for anything,” said the Vermont senator and two-time presidential candidate in an interview. “People are outraged and they’re frightened and they want to fight back. And this is one form of beginning the struggle to fight back.” '
As a New Zealander at the edge of the 5 eyes US empire looking on from a distance I am a Bernie fan to be clear but what he is really highlighting is the morass the Democrats are in.
Bernie is at least imo genuine and earnest in his beliefs- one of the very few US politicians not compromised by corporate sponsors pulling the strings.
With Biden you could almost see the strings being pulled- he was so transparently a mouthpiece for the establishment interests/narrative who owned and controlled him.
Democrats need to face the current reality and get some guts - Bernie shows what is required - stand up and speak what you believe.
Listening to Trump on Joe Rogan I was reluctantly impressed- as at least Trump appears to be speaking from his own mind - not one composed by a gang of lackeys owned by bankers, policy wonks and corporate parasites.
USA is in a time of decline - how to respond to the rise of China - it needs a robust political narrative spelling out the options - Trump is at least acknowledging some of the nature of the problems more openly than the Democrats did- and Bernie represents imo a valid alternative viewpoint.
Put Bernie up and lets have the debates.
A serious contest of ideas.
Get the rentseeking corporate banker sponsors and military contractors out of US politics and get to the truth!
Trouble is the Democrats shafted Bernie and now, maybe its too late?
