BYD’s new battery and charging system was capable of providing around 400 kilometers (249 miles) of range in 5 minutes in tests on its new Han L sedan, Chairman and founder Wang Chuanfu said Monday. The manufacturer will start selling vehicles with the new technology next month.
Being able to charge a car in the time it takes a combustion engine vehicle to pull in and out of a gas station could convince drivers who aren’t willing to make lengthy stops to go electric.

Takes longer than 5 minutes to fill up my gas tank although I have never timed myself
Even wiping the windshield takes at least 2 minutes is my guess

This story of charging 400 km in 5 minutes seems more like hype than reality. In the real world, ultra-fast charging depends on several factors, such as temperature, infrastructure and battery wear, which BYD conveniently ignores. Besides, where are these miracle chargers? Most networks do not yet support this level of power. Before spreading exaggerated promises, it would be good to check if this really works outside the laboratory.
