This is essentially about UFOs and bitcoin.
  • "We are about to go back into an era, which is perhaps of very high vitality."
  • "We have to go beyond Einstein, current physics is a life sentence to perish in our solar system."
  • "I believe that the end of physics is almost in sight, it may bring us wonders, it may bring us the ability to traverse the cosmos."
Why would it be so disappointing to be stuck in our solar system? There are literally hundreds of worlds to explore here and we haven't even finished exploring the one planet we've been on for the past million years.

I think he's thinking long long long term (compared to our lifespans). It might be a good idea to be able to survive off-planet in case there is some kind of cataclysm

Probably so, and then "perish" is more of a technical concern than an emotional one.

Because it would really be a terrible shame if the means to traverse the stars, among other life-enhancing technologies, have been suppressed for longer than needed.

I agree that would be a shame, but that assumes those things are physically attainable.
If they aren't attainable, I don't think that's particularly sad. There's a lot to do in our neighborhood.
