With his passing the House is now 218 - 213 allowing for TWO Republicans to flip on a reconciliation package before they do not have the votes. This is huge for Speaker Johnson since he previously only had a one vote wiggle room.
Arizona law requires the governor to hold a special primary election between 120 and 133 days after the vacancy occurs, and for a special general election to be held 70 to 80 days after the primary, meaning the seat won't be filled until the fall at earliest.
There's not an interim appointment to the seat?
Not for House seats that’s only the Senate!
That's wild. It seems like those constituents shouldn't have to pay taxes or something, until they get another representative. That's probably not an incentive they want to create though.
So the staff remains intact... but to your point... Rep. Sylvester Turner who passed away at the beginning of the month he replaced Shelia Jackson Lee who also passed away last Congress... That poor district hasnt been really repped for a hot minute
what about that 90 year old woman in Texas who has Alzheimer's and was living in a nursing home who was re-elected to her House seat last November???
I forget her name, I think she also passed away
Kay Granger… I had interned for her
that's right
82 and still alive and did not run for re-election in 2024
… she was such a kind women esp to me… it is terrible what happened to her and that her family didn’t step in…
Wasn't the senate the thinner majority for Republicans though?
No ironically enough it is a 4 vote Republican up 5 if we need the VP to vote
53-47 plus Vance in the Senate
The house majority was only 4 or 5
