They drafted a young QB last year but he got hurt before the season started. Darnold was only supposed to be there for 1 year to compete with the rookie until he was ready to take over. They probably want another veteran for next year to do the same but I am assuming Darnold wants more than a 1 year deal.
Durnold actually deserves it imo. His stats are impressive.
What's going on with your 49ers? Aren't they signing or replacing any players?
They signed a couple guys. Next week when the new league year begins. They probably aren't bringing back any of their free agents, which is too bad but it probably would have been done by now.
I was unaware that NFL does on a fixed time table.
Here's what I see now that these signings and negotiation are also to be done on a fixed schedule.

Yes, until the new league year starts teams can only negotiate with current free agents (guys that were cut) and guys on their team that are pending free agents.
Seems like quite some big business!
If this isn't a year long business what do companies or individuals doing negotiations for players do afterwards?
There isn't much time between the Super Bowl and when the new league year starts so they are working on coaching staff, trying to sign their own free agents or restructure contracts, preparing for the draft during that time.
Ok. I guess they also manage the sponsors for the players?
In cricket most of such companies sign players to manage their sponsors on their behalf. That's the only business they've got to deal with. They aren't allowed to interfere in the trading of players for IPL.
All depends on money. He's performed well I guess. Not sure why Vikings left him?
