Ted Snider looks into the fiery public feud between Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky during a recent White House meeting.
“What seemed to irritate Trump and Vance were two comments Zelensky made, one to each of them. Trump’s goal can be summarized as wanting to negotiate a quick end to the war in a way that does not involve US security guarantees that could lead to World War III. Zelensky publicly challenged both those points.”
I've been hearing that Zelensky had already made a deal with the UK before this meeting and the Trump team found out. Then they pulled off this emotional meeting to look like its how the deal blew up.
I don't know. Who knows. Trump is a chaos machine and it tends to work out for him. Time will tell. He's got some scheme going here.

I hadn't heard that, but it makes some sense of why Zelensky wasn't more deferential.

The story goes that Zelensky secretly talked with Starmer about a deal before the meeting with Trump. Trump found out and included Vance to rile it up. Who knows. Its a theory. This whole thing is a mess of distractions on all sides.
I don't think the way Trump frames the war is accurate. I get what he's doing. Its on brand but its a lie. The US wasn't getting robbed. The the people are. The US establishment has been trying to provoke conflict with Putin for decades. It hasn't went the way they had hoped though. Putin is still in power and the Russian econ has not crumbled.
Most people in the US that "support Ukraine" don't realize that this "support" is just a proxy war designed to sacrifice Ukrainian lives and property for the benefit of the military industrial complex that owns the majority of the foreign policy establishment in the US and probably Europe. Their "supporting Ukraine" is only bleeding those people more. The goal is not to defend them from Russia. These US officials do not make foreign policy decisions based on morals. Its about money and power. The morals are just the marketing.
