500 sats \ 1 reply \ @krawall 6 Mar \ on: The talks between Trump and Zelenskyy are getting WILD news
So the way I see is the following, and if anyone is risking WW3, it's going to be Trump/Vance.
Europe is at risk and not sure the US is oblivious to it or they just don't care.
Best scenario:
Turkey just entered "peace talks" with PKK because they know that when the US pulls out, Erdogan cannot fight too many wars. Turkey will side with Europe. That's the good news.
US will soon pull out of NATO, which means that all the baltic states are getting exposed (the baltic defense line will not be enough). Turkey as a NATO country will henceforth defend and join Europe but only for in return being admitted into the EU.
It's unclear if, in the absence of US from NATO, Putin will go directly for the baltic states or not.
Anyway, henceforth Ukraine (unclear in what shape) will be entering the EU as well as Moldova. The EU is not a military organization so I guess there will be a successor to NATO which maybe called ETO. Or, since likely, all remaining NATO members will be EU members from that time on, the EU will become a military defense arm as well. What happens further to the east is unclear.
Worst scenario: I dunno. But the US will not be safe if that happens despite the pond.
Thanks for the reasonable take. I consider this a decent response to #904243
I'm not sure if the US is at any risk of pulling out of NATO, though I can understand why Europe is worried about it.
I guess a lot of the disagreement boils down to how aggressive you think Russia will continue to be after a Ukraine peace treaty.
But what I want to understand is, what is the alternative? Is the US and Europe ready to commit actual troops to Ukraine? Because it doesn't seem like continuing to send weapons is going to accomplish anything.
