Construction of the World Trade Center, an iconic complex in New York, was completed in 1973 and included the famous Twin Towers, designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki. The project began in the 1960s and was an engineering milestone, with an innovative tubular structure that maximizes the use of internal space, creating large office areas. At 417 and 415 meters tall, the towers were the tallest buildings in the world at the time of their completion.
Construction faced several technical challenges and controversies, including the removal of a traditional neighborhood to make way for the complex. The World Trade Center quickly became a global symbol of economic power until it was tragically destroyed in the attacks of September 11, 2001.
