FAA Announces Winners of $272M Contract for Architectural & Engineering Support

The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded eight companies spots on a $271.9 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract to provide architectural, engineering and construction support.
The FAA identified the selected companies as Benham Desing, AECOM Technical Services, EXP US Services, Larson Design Group, Michael Baker International, Pond and Company, Jacobs Engineering Group and Wiley Wilson, according to a Friday notice posted on SAM.gov. The contractors will perform the required services in FAA-managed eastern, central and western sectors to support facilities and equipment projects under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
Under the IDIQ, the FAA will issue task orders based on the agreement’s negotiated labor rates and terms and conditions. The contract includes a five-year base performance period and five one-year option periods for a total of 10 years.

My Thoughts đź’

To cut the time it takes to solicit the private sector for Architectural and Engineering (A/E) service federal governments often enter into these types of contracts.
To establish the IDIQ they go out to the market and see how many companies can meet the requirements of the procurement in this case it is for A/E services. Once the companies respond with their capabilities they are rated and scored. The companies that can meet the qualifications of the parameters described in the procurement they’re selected to be the only firms to enter into contract with the government for A/E services.
This is how the sausage gets made stackers. While everyone is giddy about DOGE cuts you must remember the private sector relies on the government for business as well.
With a 10 year IDIQ and only a $272M cap it appears this is for minor type work. FAA isn’t doing anything major with this IDIQ. The cap is too law and the duration is too long. This could change if needed but it’s unlikely.
