In pursuit of a global maximum, reaching minima is often better than reaching a local maxima. Local maxima make us risk averse.

While pursuing a global maximum you may find the function itself is changing. Reaching the global maximum of one function may not be the true goal.

Best to assume you're never at the global maximum while still operating as if it exists somewhere ... it's just really hard to do.
