Depressing trend appears to have accelerated ~2010 with mobile phones and social media. No doubt correlated with population decline. I remember as a kid I used to wonder why we couldn't get panda bears to procreate...
It's sad but teens ow don't want to learn social skills. Learning the video gaming skills are greatr for them.

Its kind of jaw dropping. I used to teach in taiwan, during their break time many would be on their phone checking tiktok and such. I remember when l was in school, we used to share homework and just talk. Guess that happens online now.

The reality is none of us monkeys, even if you're a comedian, can compete with the novelty and wit found in our social feeds and AI :(

Its only a novelty. True friendships last a lifetime.

It seems that the graph stops at 2022 which is right after that infamous pandemic event that changed everything. We should see updated data before drawing conclusions, but the trend will probably stay way below.

I notice this when interacting with zoomers in the service industry. They are awkward and don't know how to communicate.

I know some kids who went to a private Catholic school, where the rule was - phones are locked away when school starts, and stay locked up until school ends. Public schools have a very watered down form of that, where (depending on the whim of the teacher) sometimes they have to put their phone in a specified location, at the beginning of the class.
Where is this all going to end? Continued shrinking of any kind of socializing?
Or will people/organizations start setting up rules and boundaries, like the Catholic school did?

Doesn't end well I think. I definitely prefer waymo over uber, and restaurants with self-ordering systems over waitresses... even though I am gaining convenience at the expense of human interaction... I'm sure it will be 10x worse for young kids and ill effects will compound over time.
Sort of like how Japan is great for solo travel but everyone is lonely...

Probably the most disturbing trend there is
