Established by the Han Chinese in 130 BCE, the Silk Road was a vast network of trade routes linking eastern China to the Mediterranean and the rest of Europe. While earlier routes had been developed by the Persians, it was the Chinese who solidified the Silk Road as a hub for commerce, cultural exchange, and the spread of ideas.
