Critics warn that one risk of ending diversity policies in favour of a meritocracy is that biases can resurface. They argue DEI initiatives mitigate affinity biases — when people are drawn to those who remind them of themselves — and thus ensure decisions are genuinely meritocratic.

DEI itself is a bias so FT is arguing forced bias to avoid potential inadvertent bias. That’s ludicrous.

'Resurface' is the key word here! I don't know why but media is trying to blame Trump with whatever words they can.

reply

Replacing possible subtle implicit bias with definite crude explicit bias is not a reduction in overall bias.

reply

We can talk about which one will have less bias? But bias is people's god damn thing, they just can't live without it. 😉

reply

The unintentional bias will be less. There may be other ways to reduce it, but not this DEI stuff.
