Besides my shitcoins on bitcoin problem with this idea, from a shitcoiner's position what advantage that they care about does using lightning have for USDT. Bitcoin is comparatively slow to chains like Tron. Bitcoin's advantages are really moot when you consider you are moving USDT which is not bitcoin. The reasons we like bitcoin over these shitcoins don't really matter to shitcoiners. They don't care about centralization. They want cheap and fast and they can get that without bitcoin and therefore lightning. I don't see this taking off even if it is possible to do or even a good idea (which I don't think it is).
Lightning is faster than these other block chains. If that really is what people want, they will get it with LN.
But I agree that it won't likely take off. First of all, exchanges make more money pedaling sh$tcoins so they are likely to continue ignoring LN and stay with block chains that have a marketing department. Also, the BTC maxi's will continue to call USDT a sh$tcoin and this will keep more people away.
Also note that USDT has been on liquid for many years with little adoption. I think it was also the cheapest and possibly the fastest too.

Another view, maybe this will be the gateway drug for shitcoiners to start valuing those things that bitcoin does well.
From what I've seen a lot of shitcoiners haven't even heard of the Lightning network, and most of those who have heard of it don't actually know what it is. Maybe this will draw them in?
