Hugo Ramos, a passionate Bitcoin advocate and full-time Bitcoin node operator, experienced a major hack in December 2023, which drained ~4 BTC from his Lightning node through unauthorized payments. The hack targeted his BTCPay server, which was set up to onboard merchants, especially in El Salvador. The funds were routed to a Bitlifi wallet controlled by the Anycoin exchange, and despite his detailed investigation, the exchange and its partners have not been helpful in recovering the stolen funds. Hugo is now preparing legal action, planning to contact authorities in Czech Republic, Moldova, and Romania, and is seeking help from the Bitcoin community to trace the attacker and possibly recover the stolen Bitcoin. The incident has left Hugo and his wife facing significant financial difficulties, as their dream of building a Bitcoin-focused community in El Salvador is now jeopardized. He is asking for any help or support from the wider community to recover the funds and rebuild his efforts.
