A Fed employee once they surpass their probationary period are dam near impossible to fire. They also have pensions and all the other expenses the government as an employer deals with. Contractors can easily be removed as the contract won’t be renewed and there isn’t any pension with the Federal government. Over the lifetime of what is owed contractors are much cheaper.
They may be cheaper than outright federal employees, but they are not cheaper than any other, private sector, employee because they have about the same efficiency as the government worker. They are still tax-eaters. All state employees are tax eaters, in other words, they are all paid using taxes and they pay no taxes themselves. If you consider taxes as coercive robbery, than they are all working for ill-gotten money.
