MLB is testing an automated ball/strike (ABS) challenge system in a number of Spring Training games this year.

Spring Training kicked off today with a matchup between the Dodgers and Cubs and we got our first look at the ABS challenge system when the Cubs catcher challenged a called ball.

Quick, easy, accurate. I love it so far.

Let's not bother testing further and just implement the thing. In fact, just let it call all the balls and strikes.

Sats for all, GR

Man, I like it! I can only imagine watching baseball with consistent strike zones.

Teams will have use challenges judiciously but hopefully we at least get rid of the absolutely egregious missed calls that affect the outcome.

Uh, oh. The MLB must have read my sports fact...

Sorry refs, I didn't want you to lose your jobs 😟

reply

Don't worry. They still need someone to read the AI's result.

reply

Are they still going to make the stupid hand signs and eject players for minor infractions? Because that's where they really shine.

reply

A job only they can do.

I feel like the MLB refs are the most pompous douche bags in all sports.

reply

Definitely
