Hell of a move by SGA! This summer he can sign a supermax with the Thunder worth $300 mil and given how the supermax contracts are pretty standard SGA could be saving MILLIONS by doing this! To be honest he could just pay a retainer for a team of lawyers and spead less given the percentage that agents take.
We have seen this become a bigger and bigger thing across sports mostly in football... could the NBA be next? I dont see it happening anytime soon with MLB but then again wilder things have happened.
I doubt this would happen in MLB but for NBA it makes sense for guys who are going to get max or super max contracts.

In my mind the leagues with developed minor leagues like MLB and the NHL there is a whole other element to contracts where as the NFL and NBA it is really pretty specific with ya got this one league

NBA has the G League now. I wonder if at some point the NFL will expand the practice squad rosters and have the practice squads play against each other like a minor league. Probably couldn't be a full schedule because you don't want too many practice squad players getting hurt. Maybe they could do an 8 game schedule.

I think for the NFL there best bet is going to be partnering with someone like the XFL who is in the spring and they can test rule changes with. Kinda like what baseball does with the Frontier League

Makes sense. Who do you like in the draft for your Texans?

Naturally I have masive O line questions but I did see were are expected to be one of the top people for the Chiefs all pro tackle. If we get him we can swing out current right tackle back to guard where he was really good and plug that massive hole.
These seems to be a pretty defensive packed draft which I mean you can always use help but we have such a depth of it. I could see us trading the pick for an offensive weapon be it a lineman or a wide receiver.
In mocks I have seen Walter Nolan fall all the way to us and if that is the case he would be a fantastic addition. I remember watching him at A&M his freshman year and hes big, plugs holes, and can move quick.
I could also see Josh Conerly Jr but I am a little hesitant on him given the strength of schedule Oregon played. If we go WR I honestly have no clue or insights into any of them lol
James Harden did this. It makes a lot of sense for franchise superstars. There's no question that SGA is getting a Super Max contract, so why pay his agent a few percent of that.
reply
When did Harden do this? Was it recently cause I lividly remember his time in Houston and his agent was always having to cover his ass for his off the court antics
reply
IIRC, it was before his final Super Max contract in Houston.

I did a quick google search and this one with Houston was signed when he was repped by Rob Pelinka who ended up becoming the GM of the Lakers in 2017. From 2017 when Pelinka became the GM of the Lakers until Feb. of 2024 he used "part-time agents" I kinda assume that is what these players do when they rep themselves? He would hire these part time people when he kept wanting to get traded lol which factoring in his spell of trades seems like they were really full time! In 2024 though he did hire a new full time agent in Troy Payne who he still has!
