Argentine President Javier Milei has been on the defensive after a cryptocurrency he endorsed on X saw its value crash, triggering fraud allegations and calls for impeachment by his political foes.
The scandal is hitting the libertarian leader ahead of his trip Thursday to Washington to meet with Trump administration officials to win support for his economic reforms, including approval for an International Monetary Fund loan. A darling of the global conservative movement and ally of President Trump, Milei has described the fallout as “a slap in the face” against him and asserted he hadn’t championed the cryptocurrency.
But he has spent the last few days deflecting blame for the crypto fiasco and ordered the Anti-Corruption Office run out of the Justice Ministry to investigate.
“I did not promote it,” he said to Argentine TV channel Todo Noticias on Monday. “What I did was I shared it. It’s not the same.”
I am waiting for the "conspiracy" theory hahaha, what a novel. Fuck the state, but first... fuck the banks.

For a guy that had so much going for him.... what a way to destroy his momentum....

Yet Trump can have his own shitcoin as can Melania?
With impunity it seems.

Timed his scam better - before he was in office. He's always been a scammer tho, so it's not news. Not a highbrow moment. Not interesting.
Scammers be scamming.

Trump and Melania issued their own shitcoins from which they stand to profit directly after Trumps victory in the elections.
Milei simply shared the news of a new shitcoin (one that appeared intended to promote Argentine enterprise) and one he does not profit from directly.
Milei may have been conned but Trump is a con.

One thing I think should be noted and I am no expert on IP law here but it is an interesting thing for someone to issue a memecoin about themselves. Lets be honest Trump, Melania, Barron they are all set up to be memecoins and instead of their likeness and status being used they did it themselves and I mean... its not the stupidest idea you create and drive the narrative then.

It is a massive abuse of power and position.
Agree.
I'm even willing to give Milei the benefit of the doubt on this one, except that it absolutely does not inspire confidence in the man. Why does he take meetings with SOL scammers? Is the person that vouched for them in prison or exiled yet?
He can play the role of the innocent, but bottom line it's a really bad look in terms of competence and a big shit stain on the institute he heads.

Uhhh did either of those immedatly dump? No they might not have any utility but the die hard MAGA fans do not care. The market was not the same for Milei as we can clearly see.

So two things....
First Trump's is literally called a meme coin so is Melania's they didnt hide that. LIBRA was supposed to be some sort of crypto that would fund small businesses and startups either Trump nor Melania's ever mentioned anything like that and again literally put meme in the coins name.
Second are we looking at the same graph with Trumps? It came out at $8.5963 and is currently $16.9 according to your graph.... since launch it has gained over 100% so thats wildly different. Both Trump and Melania also seem to have pretty solid safe guards in place to prevent a rung pull... I mean it didnt happen did it? Your complaint about Trump in particular would be like me complaining that I bought Nvidia at its highest level and now its down. Well I bought it at a bad time that sucks for me.

yeah, sorry... you'll have to forgive me, I don't shitcoin and I don't know the difference between a meme shticoin and a utility shitcoin

I would like to see Bukele bitch slap him. Like, Will Smith kind of bitch-slap. I'll pay 100k Sats to anyone who can make such a thing happen.

Calling him a libertarian is ridiculous, he's a liberal minarchist licking jews' balls. He has some good ideas, but don't fully understand austrian economics otherwise the central would already be closed. But of course that the left will try to destroy him now promoting some shitcoin.

You understand the size of the existing debt to the IMF accumulated by previous Argentine governments and the consequences of default?
No you don't.
It's not called the fiat debt slavery bankers cartel for nothing.
They own your government.
reply
I don't give a shit about the consequences, Milei was saying he was willing to die before licking their rings. Milei was about freedom or death, how it has to be if you're a real libertarian, yet here we are.

No you don't.
The consequence in Mileis case would almost certainly be removal of Milei and replacement with some one who will comply with the bankers debt slavery contracts...and a fire sale of Argentine assets and resources. Think of Greece.
Libertarians love to criticise politicians but they don't understand politicians in nearly all countries are owned by the bankers.
You are free to not give a shit about the consequences for Argentina, but Milei is not.
reply
Even the socialists did it, but it did not end well at the end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbKqb80AZqs But Milei is a total slave of them and enjoys/don't understand how he's being played.
reply
It does not end well because it is slavery and the bankers own governments via it and can and will do whatever it takes to enforce and sustain their fiat debt slavery.
The guy makes reforms, then begs for another IMF loan? Is he just a puppet of the bank cartel? People should start distancing themselves from politicians. The idea that they’re in the same boat as us is idiotic. They operate on a different level, with different goals, separate from our everyday reality.
