I won't go full Draymond Green here but I am still not sold.
I think it was better than the regular game. Having the four different teams, each with a theme tied to them (OG's, Global stars etc) was a good idea. It was kind of fun to see the Rising Stars give the OG's a bit of a scare. The games were moderately more competitive and guys seemed slightly more interested, but we are still quite a ways away from this being a can't miss event.
The antics around the games did not help. The music and intros weren't very good. I like Kevin Hart but he absolutely bombed. That was the definitely the least funny I have seen Kevin Hart be. Some of the banter between the TNT guys was pretty good but this whole show around it being the last ASG broadcast by TNT was lame.
Not to mention the fact that the final game between Team Shaq's OGs and Team Chuck's Global Stars was a snoozefest and was over faster than last week's Super Bowl beat down.
Like I said, I won't go full Draymond, there were some improvements over the regular game but I can't in good faith give this anything more than 5/10. Hopefully the NBA will build off of it and make it even better next year.
Sats for all, GR
You know I'm not into Basketball. These All stars games are included in the regular season or they are just for entertainment? What's the difference?
reply
It’s just for entertainment.

Why not they create a celebrity league for this purpose? We have one in cricket where only actors and actresses take part. We call it Celebrity Cricket Legue.
reply
They have a celebrity game as part of all star weekend.
reply
Thanks. I should be able to watch it. It's live and free on YouTube in India.
reply
After last year's antics, I decided not to watch it, even with the changes. In the past, athletes stimulated rivalry that was reflected on the court, now, there is nothing, not even between themselves, to stimulate competitiveness. For this reason, I am very skeptical about the future of this festival.

Didn’t watch I was enjoying real all start action on blades

Canada having a nice practice today to get ready for Thursday.
reply
4-0 in the first I see

I don't like the way Canada finished that game. Another really weak goal by Binnington to make it 4-2. Fortunately, Crosby got the empty netter to seal the deal but they let Finland back in that game. Going to need to play better than that Thursday. Canada's D and goaltending concern me a little.
reply
Yeah I saw the highlights very concerning was Makar back in the line up?
reply
2nd period. Canada playing very well.

Unless it's going to be the 100 vs 100 death match, I'm not interested.
reply
How about every man for himself?
reply
The most important part is the death. Im fine with modifying how they kill each other, so long as we have a clear victor
reply
Yeah, I'm not impressed, but I'm willing to give them another year to tweak things.
reply
It was better but not great. Especially when compared to what the NHL is doing with the four nations faceoff and how great that competition has been so far.
reply
It got off to a good start, but after the Trae vs Wemby game, the others were pretty dull.
I think 40 points was too high, for one thing. They should just make it 21 and the first round losers should play each other, before the finale.
reply
I thought 40 points for the final was too low. Maybe make the prelim games shorter and the final longer?
reply
Could be. That game really dragged in the middle, but got better at the end. The question is whether it needed time to get good or if it only got good because the end was nigh.
