Given all the stuff happening in the US, Middle East, and Eastern Europe the enormous news out of Africa seems to have fallen by the wayside. When you break down the richest countries based on the mineral and other natural resources they have the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is one of if not the richest in the world due to its mineral deposits. The best or most dense of these deposits are in the eastern party of the country where over 100 armed groups are fighting both each other and the DRC government.

M23 is by far the strongest and most well equipped with Rwanda backing them. The reason Rwanda hates its next door neighbor goes back to the genocide that occurred in Rwanda and the DRC subsequent role in the after effects. DRC’s central government has for decades struggled with armed groups in the east and now it has only gotten worse.

In January of this year M23 took over the largest city and now they look like they are on the cusp of taking the second largest city home to over 1.3 million people. If this was anywhere else in the world you would be blown up by the news of this happening but because of where it is and everything else going on your average person does not have a clue at all.
