Cool, but the hash chips are still proprietary. Is any company or project doing anything about this? Or will we keep running circles around the elephant in the room?

For sure, pretty wild we are still doing this dance, but yes there is hope - block.
from what I remember in a podcast recently, block are building full schematics, paperwork/ supporting documentation for their chips coming out soon.
Skot9000 on twitter also confirmed they are working with a company straight from the fab - presuming this is Block.
